Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's marriage ends after 10 years
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's 10-year marriage faced significant challenges long before their official separation, as reported exclusively by Page Six.
"Jess and Eric had trust issues," a source revealed. "They were no longer aligned, and this only pushed them further apart."
Simpson, 44, confirmed her separation from Johnson, 45, on Monday. She shared that they had been living separately while navigating what she described as a "difficult situation."
"Our children are our top priority, and we are committed to doing what is best for them," she said in a statement, referring to their children Maxwell, 12, Birdie, 5, and Ace, 11.
"We are grateful for all the support we've received and ask for privacy as we work through this time as a family," she added.
Sources shared that the couple, who are in the process of selling their $18 million home in Hidden Hills, California, had opted to live apart last year as a trial period before making the decision to separate permanently.
"Jess thought some time apart might help, but she realized she enjoyed her independence," the source explained.
Simpson, who recently celebrated seven years of sobriety, has been handling the separation with a positive outlook, despite having "good days and bad days," according to close friends.
Representatives for Simpson, who also authored "Open Book," did not respond promptly to requests for comment.
Rumors of their separation began in November 2024, when Simpson posted on Instagram that her desire to return to her music career was a "way to apologize to myself for enduring everything I didn’t deserve."
A source also told Page Six that the couple, who married in July 2014, had stopped attending their children's school events together, prompting speculation among other parents.
Following a TMZ report that friends of Simpson had been seeking divorce attorneys on her behalf, both Simpson and Johnson were seen without their wedding rings.
Before marrying Simpson, Jessica Simpson was previously married to Nick Lachey, her "Newlyweds" co-star, while Eric Johnson had been married to designer Keri D’Angelo.
